Why This is Important and Why should Faith community lead the way
Voting gives us dignity, protection and a sense of belonging when it lets us be counted as citizens and as persons of value. Disenfranching any American by eliminating their ability to cast a vote, should be made difficult to do...not easy. It should be very rare, and not used as a tool.
There are tax paying citizens who do the work to make America strong, but cannot vote because of a past mistake. That is not the American spirit. In America when we make a mistake and overcome adversity, we know our nation to be a place of second chances. That's who we are and it is what our faith teaches us.
Let us Know About Your Liberation First Sunday
You can help by committing your church to participating in "Liberation First Sunday" for the purpose of collecting petitions for the Florida Restoration of Rights Amendment to Floridas constitution. By doing so, your church is helping to make sure that never again will a citizen be denied the right to vote when they've served her/his time, and paid all of their debts to society after being convicted (in the past) of a non violent offense. By helping, we can achieve the goal of never again having our neighbors be disenfranchised and not given a "moral" second chance.
We will need to know who will be the point person for your church or community event on "Liberation First Sunday", December 10, 2017, and how to contact that person. We also need to know what support or materials you may need from the Florida Voters Campaign PAC.
Additionally, it is critical that we know where to send petitions and voter registration forms for your event. Our office will also contact you to discuss the coordinating of the pick up of signed petitions after the event.
We also ask that you let our office assist you with your local media as needed and that you do not hesitate to contact us.
A Florida statewide movement for change, led by the faith community
Restoration of Rights and Voters Campaign
At its core, our faith is about love, hope and forgiveness. Florida's policy regarding voting rights' and restoration of rights for those who have made a mistake and received a felony conviction, fails to preserve or emulate any of those key tenants of not only our faith, but our moral code.
We believe in giving second chances. We believe that the sum total of a persons life is not simply the mistakes they have made.
Or, email us at Michael@floridavoterscampaign.org to sign up your church as a particpant for "Liberation First Sunday" . We will provide manpower and supplies.
